American Fugitive review

My Pros:

  • The top-down visuals look good and the accompanying sound design combines well with them giving off an old-school GTA vibe.
  • I found exploring the decent sized world to always be rewarding because there always seemed to be something to do and doing these things was always fun and enjoyable.
  • Stealth plays a big part in this game and getting away from the cops always feels exhilarating because the cops are relentless to say the least.
  • Whilst driving cars can be a little problematic at times I found driving to be more fun than frustrating and it did give the gameplay an extra layer of depth.

My cons:

  • The story was a little too basic for my liking and there isn't really anything included that you haven't seen many times before.
  • It isn't very interesting at the start and it does require you to but a few hours in before things start to become exciting which may be off-putting for some.
  • More variety in the missions you have to undertake would've been a welcome addition because they do grow stale quite quickly.

My final evaluation on American Fugitive:

All in all from the moment I started American Fugitive it became quite clear that it had took a lot of inspiration from the old-school Grand Theft Auto games and in my opinion this isn't a bad thing either because the old-school Grand Theft Auto games were top-down masterpieces to say the least. American Fugitive whilst not as good as the previously mentioned games is still an action-packed fun-filled adventure with plenty of cops looking to take you down at a moments notice. In order to get to this action-packed experience though you'll have to grind quite a bit at the start but even though this part of the game is tedious I recommend that you stick with it because when the map starts to open up there always seems to be something to do. Prepare yourself though because as the map gets bigger so does the threat of the police. Stealth plays a big part in getting away from them then and I must admit that these elements have been done well because getting away from them always provided me with an exhilarating experience. Something else that was exhilarating was the driving and whilst it isn't perfect I still got a lot of joy from skidding around and destroying parts of the city. In terms of problems the game has a few but thankfully I didn't find the basic story and lack of variety in the missions to be too off-putting in the grand scheme of things because I was easily able to look past these issues as things progressed. At the end of the day then if you look past the game's little shortcomings then you'll find American Fugitive to be a game that takes a tried and tested formula and makes it work for the most part. Yes it's not as good as the very best this genre has to offer but it still does enough to make it a worthy addition to your gaming library.

My score for American Fugitive is 7/10.
